I have such mixed feelings. On the one hand I rejoice in my good fortune of having purchased the 700h Overtrail early. But then on the other hand I am angered by the impact on the market and the after market and the burden it puts on others wanting this incredible vehicle.

There is no other US Vehicle which matches the combination of reliability, off road capability and comfort that is in the LX 700h Overtrail. Educate me if I am not aware.

Toyota will be fine and will move volume to other global markets. It is the US that will feel the loss and the pain.

My 2c.

I want a fair trade system. If someone is charging us a tariff on imports, we should do the same. Fair is fair. I guess Japan's been doing an 8% for a long time -- so that in return seems fair to me.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

China stealing our IP for decades and everything else without punishment definitely doesn't seem fair.

Glad you are happy to carry the burden of this tax.

I don't really consider it a tax. When I was younger there was a huge push to buy American... I would love to see that again. I don't have anything against imports, but I'd much prefer to see money stay here and support locals as opposed to going 100% overseas.

I’m not sure if this thread was started just to argue with others posting their ideas or if you truly have “mixed feelings” and wanted to hear the other side of the coin.

I just confirmed with my dealer that my Overtrail has landed and is being processed before the tariffs take into effect. Now if they told me that I’m SOL and would have to pay 25% more for it, I probably would pass and keep our 392 Wrangler. There is 100% nothing like the Overtrail, but I do not think it would be the end of the world for buyers like us who are able to afford 6 digit vehicles. I’d be sad, but I’d like to see the results of this tariff plan as if it’s true that other countries have been taxing our exports for years, why should we not do the same to them?

Congratulations on getting your vehicle. I love mine. I did not start this thread to create arguments, but to express my truely mixed feelings. Another 30k added to the purchase is likely to slow adoption. I do want our community to grow and am concerned about the impact of tariffs on that. Also, I do agree, this is not the place to argue tariff economics.

I'm torn as well, I think everyone is. No one wants to pay more, but sometimes in order to level the playing field a bit of pain is necessary in the short term. Do I think there may have been better ways to do it? Yes, a slower roll out, something better structured, etc... definitely.

Do I think a lot of countries have been taking advantage of us for a long time? Also yes.. so, definitely torn.

Reminds me of a line from Full Metal Jacket. "It's a big %hit sandwich and we're all gonna have to take a bite."

Read through this thread...here's my take:

*For a lot (not all) of buyers the tariffs will send buyers to US brands. That's the whole point of Trump's plan.

*The trouble is for buyers like us who understand what a Land Cruiser is...is that there is NO US-made replacement for one (like hilljf said). So that leaves us totally hanging.

I lucked out Saturday when I found out our 700h is at port so no tariff.

*Last...the Land Cruisers are made in one factory in Japan. I do not see Toyota setting up a plant in the US to make them because the sales here are so low. This is because most US buyers want size, and ride, and this and that. The LC/LX is smaller and much more expensive. And people don't really know what a LC/LX is when it comes to durability, reliability, and such.

It would not surprise me to see the LX go away here in the US. If that happens current owners will HAVE IT MADE!

So theoretically the 25% tariff is on the wholesale price of the car (what the dealers/Lexus America is paying) not what the consumer pays. Will be interesting to see how much the post 4/3 sticker is v the current sticker. That "should be" telling as to the actual cost of the vehicle. Either way it should not be 25% more that it is now.

I agree ShottsCruisers, I saw an interesting video of a company comparing similar components from the 250 series and the 300 series showing how although the parts look similar, the 300 series parts are thicker, more robust, more reinforcement, etc.. This demonstrates the difference between light duty and and the 310 series which is built to a duty cycle of over 500,000 miles. Good fortune for those who got them prior to the tarrif impact and we will see if Toyota keeps them in the market going forward.

Ya, 4Runner's guts are NOTHING like a Land Cruiser's guts.
